PVRC ENDORSES CANDIDATES FOR UPCOMING PRIMARY

CATONSVILLE, Maryland – The Patapsco Valley Republican Club (PVRC) has announced its endorsements of candidates for the Maryland Republican primary in September.

Candidates that received the club’s support included former Gov. Bob Ehrlich for Governor, Rick Martel for State Senate, Dave “Augie” Aughenbaugh and Albert Nalley for State Delegates in District 12A, Steve Whisler for Baltimore County Council, Ken Holt for Baltimore County Executive, Rich Reinhardt for Baltimore County Clerk of the Circuit Court, and Chris Cavey for Chairman of the Baltimore County Republican Central Committee.

“The upcoming primary is a very critical decision point for the future of both Maryland and Baltimore County,” Harry Korrell, president of the PVRC, said. “This state and county has been hit extremely hard for a number of years by out of control spending, increased taxes, governmental growth, and lost jobs,” Korrell added. “We believe that the candidates that we are endorsing for this upcoming primary will give our residents the best possible opportunity to correct these problems and put both the State of Maryland and Baltimore County back on track toward a healthier and more prosperous future.”

The PVRC voted on these endorsements during its recent monthly meeting. This was the first time in its history that the PVRC voted on endorsements for candidates for a primary election.

“Though we have not done this in the past, due to the issues that face both our state and county, we thought it was a necessity for us to go ahead now in endorsing candidates for this upcoming primary ” Korrell stated.

If you haven’t been following the Baltimore County political sign debacle, now might be a good time to jump on board.  In a nutshell, Steve Kolbe from Towson puts up a 4×8 Ehrlich sign on his private property.  County code enforcer gets an “anonymous tip” and forces Kolbe to take the sign down.  Kolbe takes down sign, brings on lawyer, Mike Pappas, and takes the County to court siting freedom of speech infringement.  County responds maintaining, not only that their law does not violate free speech, but that the enforcement of that law was not politically motivated. Oh really?  Let’s ask that question to Don Albright of Essex who was asked to take a legal 4×8 sign off of his business because Ehrlich wasn’t a declared candidate.  Too bad the county ordinances say nothing about the official status of candidates.  Given the ground swell in the Kolbe case, it didn’t take long for the County to back off this one.

Now that you’re caught up, it’s time to expand the issue a bit.  Three years ago, Clarence Bell, backed by the ACLU, filed a similar lawsuit against the county siting that their 45 day rule on all political signs was unconstitutional.  The higher courts agreed and the County was ordered to remove the ordinance.  Guess what?  They didn’t.  To this day, the county code still states that all political signs are illegal until 45 days prior to the primary election.

In an affidavit , submitted to Kolbe’s attorney, Mike Pappas, Steve outlines Mike Moehler’s, Baltimore County code enforcer, insistence that the ordinance still stands.  It wasn’t until Kolbe’s lawsuit came up that Moehler backed down saying that the law was no longer in effect.  We’re seeing a theme in Baltimore County, aren’t we?

I wonder where those anonymous callers were on July 3rd in both Arbutus and Catonsville as political signs, both 2×8 and 4×8’s, went up on residential properties.  Get this.  Some were even for incumbent County Councilmen running for County Executive.  And some of those signs are still up, despite complaints from non-anonymous callers.  Selective hearing maybe?

This is what you get when an entire county is run by one party.  There are no checks and balances and the fight to remain in power, especially in this particular election year, becomes more important that our rights as citizens.  Remember what it was like to have representatives who actually represented you?  This is why it is so important to elect Steve Whisler to the County Council.  He is not just another politician.  He’s been advocating for our communities for over a decade, down in the trenches fighting against the uncontrolled spending and under the table deals with contractors.  He’s helped neighborhood after neighborhood protect what is important to them.  he has the extensive knowledge and experience to go in there and do what is right, focusing on the next generation not the next election.

Everyone knows someone affected by the big bad “C” word.  My first real experience with it came when I was pregnant with my first child. I vividly remember getting the phone call from my Dad. He had kidney cancer and it was stage 4.  At the time, I knew nothing about cancer, except that it was bad.  Soon I learned that my Dad would not beat this illness.  They didn’t even give him odds.  He fought, and fought hard, for 3 years before losing his valiant battle on April 15, 2008.  He is the reason I am walking this year in Relay for Life.

Each person on our team, including Steve himself, has a story of their own, a reason why they walk.  We hope that you will either come out this Saturday, June 12, to CCBC and walk with us or make a small donation to the American Cancer Society through our team, Whisler Walking.

Here’s how it works.  Starting at 6 pm, a member from our team will start walking around the track at CCBC.  We’ll trade off through out the night until 9 am (or we pass out on the track…which ever comes first).  In the meantime, we’ll be “tailgating” on the field.  Bring a tent, sleeping bag, a game or two, and food to share.  There are plenty of activities for kids and adults.  It’s a guaranteed good time.

Former Delegate Ellen Sauerbrey Endorses Steve Whisler for Baltimore County Council
Catonsville, MD, June 1, 2010 — Former Maryland State Delegate Ellen Sauerbrey endorsed Steve Whisler in the 2010 Baltimore County Council race for District 1. Steve is running for the seat being vacated by Councilman Sam Moxley.
Ellen, former Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration, said that “Baltimore County needs a representative who has served both his country and his community.” “With experience both in finance and pension management, Steve will bring both balance and responsibility to the council. In these times when job creation and business retention are so crucial to our economic structure, I am proud to endorse Steve Whisler’s candidacy for the Baltimore County Council. Here’s to all the men and women who have given their lives as a sacrifice for the freedoms we so often take for granted.  And for those of you who continue to put your lives on the line, we salute and support you in all that you do.  If it weren’t for you, there would be no picnicking or tailgating, pool parties or barbecues.   Our great country would be a scary place to live, work or even breathe.  Thank you for making it possible for us to bring up our children in a place where they have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

From the Man Himself: Thank you to everyone who has volunteered your time to help me sign wave, make phone calls, and go door-to-door. Our campaign field operations are so important and helps ensure that we reach out to more than 65,000 registered voters in our district. Please devote just one day a month for any of our activities — I promise that you will meet many new friends who believe that together we can do better for Baltimore County. This past week, I attended the Baltimore County Public Schools Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Fair at Randallstown High School on Saturday. I’m so proud of my eldest son, Ryan, who won a first place ribbon for his project at the STEM Fair. His project, magnetized water’s affect on plant growth, won best Life Sciences project in the entire county. I’m so thankful for our Baltimore County teachers and their hard work.   Finally, I met with several donors this past week who believe in my vision to create jobs, lower taxes, and spend more responsibly. I am so encouraged by the $40 to $100 donations we receive regularly thru the website, post office box, and house parties. Please be sure to attend one of our next fundraisers. Friends of Steve Whisler “Together, We Can Do Better”

Attention Baltimore County Youth: If you have an idea for building community, this message is for you!

Baltimore’s own youth-led group, Youth As Resources, has available funds and is offering grants to young people up to age 21 who would like to see their ideas carried out for the good of their community.

The grant prizes range anywhere from $500-$3,500 and are given to winning projects proposing community projects that are designed and carried out by young individuals under the age of 21.

Those who apply were expected to attend one of the workshops taking place on Saturday March 13 and Wednesday March 17, offered by Youth As Resources. Contenders must also be represented by at least one other peer and have the option to bring no more than one adult along with them. Although these dates have passed, don’t be discouraged.  You can still apply.

Kristen Shields, a freshman at UMBC, shares her testimony on how illegal immigration effects her generation:

Every senior in high school who aspires to attend college knows the high demands that exist when embarking on this journey. One of the most daunting hurdles in life is applying to colleges, making those challenging life decisions, and ultimately being accepted. The expectations are numerous and broad and can be very difficult for the average student to meet.

To make matters worse, there are not enough spaces at universities for the amount of qualified applicants. Not only is it the most important decision a student may ever make, but it also one of the most competitive. The fact that many illegal immigrants are accepted into the top schools for the simple reason that diversity is a bragging right among the liberal elite keeps many qualified, tax-paying young Americans from achieving their dreams.

Rewards such as these for people breaking the law are allowed and even encouraged by many state and national officials. Amnesty legislation and corrupt immigration policies keep not only college students from their education but also Americans from acquiring much-needed jobs to feed their families. These illegals do not pay their fair share of taxes yet receive all the same benefits while people who do pay their fair share have to struggle much more than is necessary.

Having said this, there may be readers who misinterpret what I am saying, so let me clarify one thing: This is not an opposition of legal immigration. Rather, it is a statement against illegal immigration and the benefits that these non tax-paying people receive from our government. On this same note, it is important to mention the need to create an easier and far more accessible way to immigrate to the USA. This would promote legal immigration to benefit our nation rather than incentivizing illegal immigration.

It is for this reason, among many others, that I support Steve Whisler’s campaign and his desire to fight the state policies on the benefits for illegal immigrants. Steve promotes reform to discourage illegal immigrants from making their homes in the state of Maryland and benefitting from the money that hard working citizens spend in taxes. He is not a party-liner, but rather an idealist who stands up for the rights of citizens and businesspeople and the overall good of this great state.
