Here are two separate opinion pieces that have appeared in the Catonsville Times in response to an article put out by Bryan Sears, Development attorneys working to fill war chests for county council hopefuls, in regards to how a few Democrats with strong ties to Executive Smith are hand-picking their candidates and raising big money from developers and special interests. I’d love to hear what you think, both of the article and of the opinions put forth by fellow citizens.

I’ve also tracked down an editorial from December 21st entitled: Smith-Gildea fundraisers are also raising eyebrows.

Team Whisler,
To set the stage for 2010, we’ve witnessed many instances that have shown the public just how complacent the ‘career’ politicians have become in our communities. It is that reason that I share the following comments.
Baltimore County Council: It remains probably one of the most exclusive and elusive bunch, and the attempts (successful or not) at continued control will undoubtedly be tested in the upcoming election. What really brings me joy is the fact that we will see for the first time in a long time, a ‘battle’ for balance in the council. Not just in our district, and not just along party-lines, the citizens of Baltimore County are finally catching on. They are realizing that the sitting incumbents aren’t always acting in their best interests. Steve, having had the opportunity to get to know you, I am proud to be a supporter, and a Friend.
A certain County Executive and his ‘group’ of underground partners in ‘grime’, will certainly stop at no expense to ensure that the continued ‘power’ institution stays in place. Special interests you say? Nah…Gildea and Smith would never….or would they?
on to the General (Dis) Assembly
Annapolis: The ‘other’ bunch, interested in the next election than the will of the people. I hope they are listening, and I hope they are a bit frazzled…as it is no longer acceptable to stand in the shadows of the Democratic Party hacks (leaders), Miller and Busch…District 12A, long known for the loyalty to the party has come to a point where they will be judged. I am not naive, I realize that the challenge ahead is a steep one but I am motivated to no end.
The state has always had its challenges dealing with the political climate, I liken it to Global Warming, we should be concerned with issues, but we shouldn’t try to stop it by levying more and more burden on the people and businesses of Maryland, they’ve given enough. It’s your turn Annapolis…
One final thought, as witnessed today, the mayor of Baltimore called in a political chit, plea deals on both charges, PBJ…gets to keep her pension (80 + K) no convictions and the States Attorney, says it was the right time to deal and its best that its over. Sounding like he actually won something, the costs would be too high? are you kidding me? What’s 83K a year for the next 20 years, chump change?
PBJ…wish it only meant “Peanut Butter and Jelly”, as others in 2009 have also benefited by such rulings…Moxley (2X loser) and Oliver, both PBJ…beginning to think that “PBJ” means…”Politicians Bury Judgements”…and OH, they are both certainly keeping their pensions too.
