They’re Finally Catching On

by hillary on January 21, 2010

This is not a new topic.  However, even with Councilman Kamenetz’ reform bill in place, county council pension is still a hot topic.  In an article published in the Baltimore Sun today, Mary Gail Hare characterizes the efforts of the sitting county councilmen to reform as modest.  I would probably use the word, “safe” more than anything.  They did what they minimally had to do, in hopes that the community would back off.

In her article, she mentions Steve.  This is what he had to say:

“Steve Whisler, a Catonsville resident running for council in the 1st District, called the pension a burden on taxpayers that is “far too generous and out of touch with those offered to federal and state workers.

“Baltimore County citizens will be liable for large pension expenses long after most of you leave office,” he said to the council during a recent work session.”

It’s funny, in all this time that we’ve been covering this topic, there are several names missing from the public eye, namely each and every Democratic contender for this County Council seat.  Just something to note.
